Product Information

What is this stuff made of?

The majority of our products are made of 100% Merino Wool. The Super Chunky Yarn is a very thick, combed wool that has only a very slight twist. The Chunky Yarn is thinner and has a more dense twist.

Many sites and resources indicate that Merino Wool is a hypo-allergenic product. It has been our experience (and one of our knitters is allergic to everything!) that this is true. However, please keep in mind that the wool has been dyed and no guarantees have been made regarding the allergenic properties of Merino Wool.

Can I order anything in any color?

We list the colors available for each item and monitor our inventory closely. If we are out of a color and you try to order it, the site should not let you do so. Feel free to reach out to us if there is a color/product combination you are particularly interested in by going to the contact us page.

How/Where/Who makes the items?

The completed items are made by the store owner (Yours Truly, Diane) and a few other folks that are enjoying the process and the extra money. We all live in the US. As far as how items are made, there are a couple of ways to go. Some are arm knit or hand knit while others are done with knitting needles. It varies by product and by knitter preference.

When will my order be sent?

Because most of the products are hand made, there may be some time that elapses between the time you order and the time it ships. If the order is for supplies or DIY kits, they will generally be sent out within 2-3 days of the order. We try to get orders out the next business day, but that is not always possible.

For hand made items, we try to keep some stock of items already made up. However, because of the number of product and color combinations, it isn't really possible to have everything in stock. If we have it in stock, we will send it within the 2-3 day range. However, you should assume that there will be a 7-10 day turn around on items not in stock. Please note that this is subject to change/variation. If we are shipping 3 weeks or more after the order date, we will post it to the site and also contact you with this information so that you can make the decision to wait on the product or choose another route. We understand that you may have a shopping deadline to meet!

Can I throw it in the washer and dryer?

Please do not wash Merino Wool products.  For many of you this may be a lesson taught by your Mom (or Dad, Granny, etc.) or by the school of hard knocks (aka - I shrunk my favorite sweater and now it would fit a 6 year old), but please be careful with your wool. Because this wool is in a fairly natural state, if you were to wash it, it would most likely turn to felt or to bits, depending on your washer.

Now, with the warning out of the way, you can use some lukewarm water and a little bit of gentle soap to try to clean a spot if that is needed. In this case, any rubbing should be in the direction of the fibers and should be done with a very smooth cloth. It is also possible (and recommended!) to dry clean your Merino Wool products.

This stuff is fabulous! Can I buy in bulk?

We do offer a special discount for bulk orders. The discount is based on a combination of the products being purchased and the total amount. Because there is significant variation in the prices of our products (Wool Flowers are a lot less expensive than a twin sized blanket!) we like to address these types of orders individually. Please contact us to get a bulk discount rate. The most efficient way for this particular transaction is to email us with what you are buying so that we have a clear list in front of us to work from. We will reach out to you within two business days. We may be doing this over the weekend as well, but this is not guaranteed.

I have an awesome store where I want to resell your products. Can I do that?

Sure! However, we would like to enter into a formal arrangement to do that. Because we may have other stores selling a particular product, we want to make sure that we are not violating any terms that may be in place with the other store. Please contact us to discuss what you have in mind. Let us know where you are located, the name of your store, and a the best way to contact you.

Can I order a custom sized blanket?

Absolutely. We list the most commonly ordered blankets to give you a reference point. However, if you have a specific need (or want), please feel free to contact us and we will see what we can do!

Can I get a multi-color blanket?

It is possible to do this, but please be aware that it may have a slightly different cost, depending on the variation. Please contact us to see what we can do.

My blanket isn't exactly the measurements on the page. Now what?

Please be aware that by the nature of the wool and the large stitches, the products will vary from item to item. This is one of the great things about buying handmade. We measure every item before it is mailed to make sure it meets the minimum requirements. If your item does not appear to be long enough or wide enough, please lay it out flat and do a little gentle tugging to get it back into shape. GENTLE tugging. We are confident that this should resolve the issue. If it does not, please let us know and we will try to find a good resolution.

My blanket has a smell to it. How do I make that go away?

Because of the dye being used to make some colors, there may be a smell that is like sulfur or vinegar, depending on the color. Some colors have no smell at all. This is due to the chemical used to make the dye set in the wool. I think of it like dying Easter eggs. You have to have the vinegar to activate the dye.

The way to make it go away is to air it out for a few days. In the confined space of the packaging, the smell intensifies. Once you get it out and let it breath for a couple of days, it should be fine. We are actively working to determine the best way to eliminate the odor altogether.

My cat/dog doesn't like his/her new bed! Now what???

Well, for the dog, I would recommend putting it in a place he likes to hang out, or you hang out near it. Dogs generally like to be around their humans when possible, so that will frequently work. Try to get your scent on it (we don't want to specify here) and that should help him be more comfortable. I would also suggest that a few well placed treats can go a long way.

For the cat, well, she's a cat. So, first of all, I would give it a few days. I would also recommend putting it somewhere that she has a good view of the room and/or outside, then just ignoring it. With our cats, the first one I made was a little small. Nobody was interested. At. All. I tried putting it in their favorite spot, putting treats in it, spraying it with catnip spray - and nothing. Not interested. So, since it was a little small and I wanted it to be perfect, I decided to take it apart and remake it bigger and see if that helped. I put it on the couch next to me to work on, then got a phone call. I look down after I finished the call and one of our cats has burrowed into the sideways laying cat bed and is fast asleep. So, for cats, I would say that time and patience are the keys.

If you want to return your pet bed, we do take returns. Please see our returns policy for details.

So I have a Great Dane that sent me a psychic message saying he needs a Merino Wool bed. It doesn't look like you have his size.

Well, you are correct. We don't typically make pet beds quite that big. But since your dog is clever enough to send the psychic message, it seems like the least we could do to make him one. It would be a special design for a dog that size, so there may be some questions we need to go through. Specifically, exactly how big is he? Does he like the sides to stand up? Is he older/arthritic? It may be a bed with an extra layer for a pillow would be called for if he is. Just contact us and we can get the specifics and quote you a price. Clearly, this would be a custom order and therefore may not be returnable.

Can I order a different length/thickness scarf or other fashion item?

Absolutely. I am not a big believer in One Size Fits All, because it really doesn't. If you want some kid-sized scarves, or some Shaq-sized ones, just let us know what you are looking for. Please note that this will be considered a custom order and most likely will not be returnable.

Can I get a scarf in a different color?

Well, it depends. We do not have as many colors of the chunky yarn (which is thinner than the super-chunky) so if it is made of the chunky yarn, we may not have the ability to accommodate. However, if you don't see the combination you want, please  contact us to be sure and we will do our best.

Can I get the scarf in more than 1 color?

Yes, it can be done. We plan on rolling out a specific line of these within a month or so of our launch. However, if you have read this far, you really, clearly deserve the perfect scarf. You will need to select colors from the list and  contact us with your request. There is a higher cost associated with this because the assembly is more time consuming. This would be considered a custom order and therefore will most likely not be accepted as a return.

Do It Yourself Kits

Do I really have to do it myself?

Well, no. You can give it as a gift and that person can do it for him/herself. Or you can just use the bag. However, you will definitely be receiving the pieces to make something, not a finished product.

How do I do this?!?!

Well, first breathe. I notice a little note of panic in that question. We have a series of video instructions on how to knit. These are broken up into little chunks so that you can get the hang of each part before you move on. Here is where you can find the Videos.
Honestly, this is not hard and I know you can do it. One of the best parts about knitting and crocheting is that, unlike with painting, sewing, whittling, and other crafts, you can undo it. That's right. If you don't like how it looks, you can gently pull on the end you are working with and undo each stitch until you get to where you are happy. I have been known to make a cat bed 4 times before I was happy with it. That isn't meant as a threat - you don't have to do it over and over. But, if it's awful, you can fix it. Unlike that time my Mom let  Dad take me to the hairdresser's.

Where are my instructions for my kit?

We intentionally made most of the instructions as videos. We discussed several ways of doing printed instructions. We reviewed a ton of written and pictorial directions. None of them are nearly as clear as just watching someone do it. I learned to knit originally from a book and I still have it. It is possible to learn from written instructions, but that is definitely the hard way. If you need some type of clarification or help, you can always contact us for assistance. We will do our best to get you to the end with something you will be proud to have made.

We do charge shipping for most of our products. We will potentially have Free Shipping based on a specific product or price point as a method of encouraging sales. We ship through USPS, FedEx, and UPS. At this time there is not a way to show the FedEx price on our site. We do check it to see if there is a better rate for the same time period of delivery or a shorter delivery for the same rate. If we find a better rate, we will pass those savings along to you when it is reasonable to do so. If we can get it there faster at the same price, we will do so.

Custom Orders

We do accept custom orders when possible. We reserve the right to not accept an order due to high volume of orders or a backlog, or inability to fulfill the order due to supply shortages or technical difficulty. Custom orders may have different prices than standard products, based on the amount of time and materials the request will require,

International Orders

At this time, we have not set up the shop to accept orders that ship internationally. We would like to do our first few international orders and shipments manually to ensure that all goes smoothly. Once we have successfully tested out the system, we will turn on the international ordering and shipping. In the meantime, if you wish to have something sent overseas, please contact us with the details of what you would like to order and your address. We will do our best to process it and get you what you need.

This thing is defective! What do I do?

Our commitment to you is that we will do all that we can to make you a happy, repeat customer. If you receive an item and you believe it is defective, please contact us with the details, including your contact information. If it is truly defective, we will replace your item.

I ordered this but I really don't want it now.

Because we are a small business making handcrafted items, it is difficult to take returns. It is difficult to guess when someone else might order the same item in the same color. Again, we want to have happy, repeat customers, so if it is an item that we believe can be sold at the price you paid, we will accept the return and refund your money. You will bear the cost of return shipping.

I thought the color was going to match, but it really doesn't. It doesn't look like what is on my screen at all!

We state several times throughout our pages that there may be variation between different monitors and devices that cause a color to appear different. We have done all that we can by providing the Pantone number on the color page. If you are considering buying something, but have concerns about the color, please email us your name and address, as well as a phone number. We will send you a very small sample of the yarn so that you can determine if it is the right color.
